
On Wednesday, a blog post published on the Walt Disney Company website announced that blockchain firm Polygon had been selected to be part of the Accelerator Program. The Disney Accelerator initiative for 2022 launched by the company is a business development program that has been created for boosting the growth of innovative firms all over the globe.
Different technologies
According to the announcement on Wednesday, six companies have been chosen to be part of the Disney Accelerator program and will join the initiative this year that will target a number of technologies. The blog post of the entertainment company detailed that the Disney Accelerator class would work on providing immersive experiences and specialize in different technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) characters, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and augmented reality (AR). On April 22nd this year, Disney announced that it had begun accepting applications for its program. The company announced the six firms that had been chosen 82 days later. The names include Polygon, Lockerverse, Flickplay, Red 6, Obsess, and Inworld.
The blog post published by Disney refers to Polygon as a scalable blockchain network that can be used for building Web3 experiences by enterprises and developers alike. According to Disney, it had chosen these companies because of its focus on next-generation efforts of storytelling.
Polygon shares the announcement
After Disney’s announcement, Polygon also tweeted on Wednesday about participating in the Disney Accelerator program for 2022. The blockchain project said that it was excited to be chosen and disclosed that it would start this week. It said that it would give the company access to Disney’s expertise, creativity, and imagination.
It also said that during the course of the program, the company would also get guidance from the senior leadership team at Disney and they would also have access to a dedicated mentor. Some of the other companies that Disney has chosen are also focused on technologies, such as Web3, three-dimensional (3D) environments, AR, and NFTs.
Disney said that Flickplay is a Web3 startup that allows its users to find NFTs that are connected to locations in the real world, which they experience via AR. Flickplay had recently announced that three months ago, it had entered into a partnership with a blockchain virtual world called The Sandbox.
NFT collection
Last year, Walt Disney announced the launch of their ‘Golden Moments’ NFT collection through Veve, a digital collectibles app. The entertainment company had also exhibited signs of engaging in the metaverse industry last year when its ‘virtual-world simulator’ patent had been approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Disney Accelerator program’s general manager, Bonnie Rosen issued a statement on Wednesday. It highlighted that the company had been at the forefront of using technology for providing entertainment experiences. Meanwhile, Polygon tweeted on Wednesday that they would disclose further updates about the accelerator program and also said that their imaginations were already on a roll. This could certainly benefit the blockchain company in the long run.
